Palm Village takes precautions against Coronavirus COVID-19
April 15, 2020
We’re providing an update on the current status of Palm Village during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are requiring all Independent Living residents who enter the RCC building and Assisted Living residents who leave their room to wear the cloth masks that have been provided.
The California Department of Public Health has mandated that visitors to end-of-life residents be limited to one visitor, and they must remain in the resident’s room.
We are promoting video conferences or recorded video messages between spouses, separated due to residing in Health Care Center and either Independent Living or Assisted Living.
Please continue to pray for Palm Village, our residents, families, and staff.

As the ramp up of COVID-19 patients in Fresno County and neighboring Tulare County continue to rise, we’re making new decisions every day to protect our residents and staff at Palm Village.
Effective today, we are locking the doors to the Residential Care Building at 5:30 p.m each evening in an effort to control foot traffic into our facility. We will open each morning at 7:30 a.m. We will now require all Independent Living residents and visitors to be screened at the front door prior to entry. Independent Living and visitors should remain a distance of 6 feet from each other, which is marked in tape at the entrance and inside our facility.
Independent Living residents will be screened when picking up the Noon to-go meal orders. We screen Assisted Living and Health Care Center residents daily for signs of the COVID-19 virus.
As in past weeks, the hair salon will remained closed.
Please continue to keep our residents and staff in your prayers.

On Monday, March 23rd we were encouraged by our governing bodies CMS, CDC, State Officials, and regulation oversight to increase our precautions and protection in the care of our residents against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meals and Dining
● Independent Living residents are offered take-out meals to eat at home and delivery if requested.
● Barbara’s Café is opened from 8:00 – 10:00 am and 2:00 – 4:00 pm, assistance is provided to obtain snacks. This allows us the opportunity to keep residents at safe distances from each other.
● Most Lobby chairs have been removed to help with congestion, and blue tape has been placed on the carpet to remind and promote social distancing.
● We have also placed tape on the floor outside of the Assisted Living dining room. We are maintaining the alternating schedule for eating and social distancing at the tables.
Visitation
● We are suspending visitation of Independent Living and Assisted Living residents whose spouse is in the Health Care Center. We still allow limited visitation for end-of-life, hospice patients who are screened at the front door.
Other Inconveniences
● We no longer allow families to do resident laundry and return it back to our facility.
● Sadly, we must turn away food that is brought by families for staff.
We are cognizant of the hardships this places on our residents, families, friends, and loved ones within our community. Please continue to pray for our residents, and dedicated Palm Village staff, as well as, all others affected by the coronavirus. For more information on coronavirus, visit coronavirus.gov

Palm Village remains committed to the care of our residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. We remain closed to visitors, family members, volunteers, and CNA/nursing students. We are screening our employees at each shift change, taking their temperature, and screening for signs of respiratory distress. We are making sure that our residents are keeping a safe distance from each other and alternating meal schedules for Assisted Living residents. We have asked our Independent Living residents to stay on campus as much as possible, but can leave for grocery shopping and other essential items. For those wanting to stay on campus, we will make arrangements for essential grocery items to be purchased. We will be providing a daily meal for Independent Living at Barbara’s and to-go meals are provided upon request. We have canceled chapel services, choir, and exercise classes. We are removing couches and adding chairs, tables with fewer chairs at them and at a safe distance so that our residents can eat, and socialize with friends. Our library remains opened for our residents.
This is a stressful time for all of us, and especially difficult on our residents and their family members. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and can be lethal, particularly for those in the age demographic Palm Village serves, but our efforts are keeping our residents safe thus far from the virus. We ask for your prayers as we move forward in the difficult days ahead.

Until further notice, Palm Village is responding to the coronavirus pandemic by limiting visitors to Palm Village. We will be screening and accept end-of-life visitors, and other emergency visits only. This limited access includes family, friends, community events, volunteers, and CNA/License Nurse students. As a senior residential care facility, our utmost concern is the care and health of our residents and employees and minimizing the transfer of the flu virus. It’s not something we like to do, since we understand that visits from family and friends aid in recovery. But we need to be mindful of those residents that are especially vulnerable in their health.
We are diligent in following the CDC and World Health Organization guidelines as well as our own governing CMS.gov – Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and weekly calls with the Fresno County Health Department, and the California Department of Health Services. We want you to know that we have been putting planned precautions, heightened awareness, and additional training to our staff on the virus and making sure that we are providing the utmost in care to combat the virus.
